Story

 

Susan Bragstad started Amador Olive Oil Co in 1995 . That year she picked her first crop of olives, which produced three quarters of a ton. Since then the size of Susan's harvest has increased steadily. In 2003 the harvest was five tons, half of which came from Susan's own olive tree orchard.

In 1998 Susan bought the old historic Cuneo farm on Climax Road, just below Pine Grove. It had 170 ancient (and rejuvenated) trees. To increase her yield she planted an additional 170 new Italian variety trees and built a barn to store equipment and olive oil. In a few years Susan plans to produce all her olive oil from her own olives.

Presently Susan harvests throughout Amador County where there are many historic groves. The trees she harvests are not sprayed or treated with chemicals. Immediately after harvesting, each ton of olives is hauled to Sciabicas in Modesto for crushing and bottling. Amador Olive Oil is unfiltered and extra virgin.

Susan sells her Olive oil at the farmers markets in Sutter Creek and Pine Grove. It is available at several shops including Andrae's Bakery in Amador City, Terre Rouge and Montevina Wineries in Shenandoah Valley. L'Olivier in Sonoma also handles it. Amador Olive Oil is available in three sizes: 5oz., 12.7oz., and 25.4oz bottles. Amador Olive Oil is on display in the walkway at Andrae's Bakery in Amador City.
